AI has changed what iGaming operators can do with their data. The bigger question is whether it is changing the quality of the decisions they make.

In a new interview with Clast, Claudia Heiling, COO of Golden Whale, explores the shift from retrospective analysis towards AI-powered decisioning and what that means for operators looking to improve retention, engagement and player value.

For Claudia, the business case for AI starts with measurable outcomes.

Rather than focusing on AI adoption for its own sake, operators should identify specific, high-value decisions where machine learning can outperform static rules, broad segmentation and manual processes. Retention and incentive optimisation are particularly strong examples, with operators continuously deciding which players to engage, when to intervene, what to offer and how much intervention is commercially justified.

The interview also examines why some AI initiatives scale while others remain stuck at pilot stage. Clear ownership, accessible data, measurable commercial objectives and integration into live operational workflows are all critical. As Claudia explains, AI cannot solve fragmented processes or unclear strategy simply by being added to the technology stack.

Another key theme is the difference between more activity and better decision-making.

AI has made it easier to generate campaigns, content, segments and automated interactions at scale. But greater volume does not necessarily translate into greater value. The opportunity lies in using predictive intelligence to determine which action is appropriate for an individual player at a particular moment.

As Claudia puts it:

“Better engagement comes from better decisions. Content may be cheaper to create, but attention is still expensive to earn.” Golden Whale – C-Lvl Leaders In…

The discussion also covers where AI is delivering the fastest ROI, the role of specialist technology partners, Build vs Buy considerations, incentive efficiency, human oversight and where expectations around generic AI remain ahead of commercial reality.

Ultimately, Claudia argues that AI should be judged by the same standard as any other strategic investment: what measurable improvement does it create?

Her closing challenge to industry leaders captures the point:

“The question for CEOs should not be ‘do we have AI?’ It should be ‘which decisions are we making better because of it?’”
